Automatic chasing · Pro+
Invoices that chase themselves
Turn on automatic reminders once, and every unpaid invoice is followed up on a set schedule by email and text. Chasing stops the moment the invoice is paid, so nobody who has paid gets nagged.
Automatic chasing is on Pro+. One-click manual reminders are on every plan, including the free one.
The problem
Chasing money is the job nobody wants
It is awkward
Asking a client for money feels confrontational, so reminders get put off until the invoice is weeks late.
It is easy to forget
With jobs on, keeping track of which invoices are due, overdue or already paid slips down the list.
It costs you
Every week an invoice sits unpaid is money you have already earned and cannot use.
How reminders work in Free Invoice App
Manual reminders are free on every plan. The automatic schedule, and texts on its steps, come with Pro+.
A five-step schedule
3 days before the due date, on the due date, then 3, 7 and 14 days overdue. Set it once in Settings and it runs by itself.
Texts as well as emails
Clients with an Australian mobile get a short text with a link to view and pay, on the due date and at 7 and 14 days. 100 texts a month on Pro+.
Stops when paid, pauses on request
Mark an invoice paid, or let a card payment mark it for you, and chasing stops. Pause it for any client you are handling personally.
Business hours only
Reminders are sent between 9am and 6pm Melbourne time, so clients are not chased at midnight.
A Pay now button in every reminder
With card payments switched on, each reminder links straight to payment, so the client can settle it in a minute.
One-click manual reminders
Send a polite reminder for any invoice yourself, whenever you choose. On Pro, it can go out as a text too.
The schedule
Five steps, from friendly to firm
- Each step is sent at most once per invoice.
- Reminders only go out between 9am and 6pm Melbourne time, never overnight.
- Invoices more than 30 days overdue are left alone, so switching it on never floods old clients.
- Switch any step off in Settings, or pause chasing for a single invoice.
- Clients with an Australian mobile also get a text on the due date and at 7 and 14 days.

Common questions
When are automatic reminders sent?
On a five-step schedule: 3 days before the due date, on the due date, and 3, 7 and 14 days after it. Each step is sent at most once per invoice, only between 9am and 6pm Melbourne time, and you can switch any step off in Settings.
Will clients who have already paid get chased?
No. Chasing stops as soon as an invoice is marked paid, and card payments mark the invoice paid automatically. You can also pause chasing for any single invoice.
What happens to invoices that are already overdue when I switch it on?
Invoices more than 30 days past due are left alone, so turning the schedule on does not send a burst of reminders about old invoices. Newer ones pick up at the next step that applies.
Can reminders be sent by SMS?
Yes. On Pro+, clients with an Australian mobile saved also get a text on the due date and at 7 and 14 days overdue, within 100 texts a month. On Pro, manual reminders can be texted too, within 25 a month. Clients can opt out of texts at any time.
Is there a free way to send reminders?
Yes. Every plan, including the free Starter plan, has one-click manual reminders by email. The automatic schedule is a Pro+ feature.
Can I write my own reminder wording?
The automatic schedule uses built-in wording that gets firmer at each step and names your business. If you would rather write your own, the payment reminder templates guide has ready-to-use wording for manual reminders.
