What makes a good written quote

A good quote removes uncertainty before the work begins. It tells the client exactly what you will do, what it will cost, how long the offer stays open and what happens next.

This checklist follows the practical fields recommended in the Australian Government’s guide to preparing quotes. General information only, not legal or tax advice.

  1. 1

    Identify both sides

Your business name, ABN and contact details, plus the client name and address.

  2. 2

    Define the scope

Describe what is included, the deliverables and any important exclusions.

  3. 3

    Price it clearly

Itemise labour, materials or services and show GST when your business is registered.

  4. 4

    Put a limit on it

Add an issue date and a valid-until date so an old price cannot stay open forever.

  5. 5

    Set expectations

State the deposit, payment timing, start conditions, variations and cancellation terms.

  6. 6

    Record acceptance

Leave room for a name, signature and date, or send the quote with an online acceptance link.

Questions

Is this quote generator really free?

Yes. You can build and download a quote PDF without creating an account, entering a card or adding a watermark. There is no download limit because the PDF is created in your browser.

Do I need an account to download my quote?

No. An account is only needed if you want Free Invoice App to send the quote with an online accept or decline link, save its history, or convert an accepted quote into an invoice.

Should an Australian quote include GST?

If your business is registered for GST, show the GST and the total price your client will pay. If you are not registered, leave the GST option off. A quote is not a tax invoice and cannot be used to claim a GST credit.

Is an accepted quote legally binding in Australia?

An accepted written quote will generally form an agreement on the scope, price and terms it contains. Be specific about inclusions, exclusions, dates, variations and payment terms, and get professional advice for complex or high-value work.

What is the difference between a quote and an estimate?

A quote is a specific offer to do stated work for a stated price and can become binding when accepted. An estimate is a best assessment of the likely cost and may change as the work becomes clearer. Label the document accurately.

Where is my quote data stored?

The free generator stores its draft in your own browser so a refresh does not erase your work. Nothing is uploaded unless you choose to create an account and continue in Free Invoice App.
